Bob West presented “AI for Litigation Paralegals: Productivity, Organization, and Support” to approximately 31 paralegals from across the country as part of the Institute for Paralegal Education’s seminar “AI Tools for Legal Practice Productivity: Compliance, Document Management, Analysis, and Best Practices.” Bob addressed the use of AI to increase productivity in litigation file organization and support through exhibit management, document ingestion, tagging, standardized naming, index building, auto-numbering, cross-referencing, and gap detection. Bob demonstrated how AI extracts dates, events, parties, witnesses, key facts, admissions, and dollar figures from document sets, and he explained the context-window limits that make working in smaller batches more reliable. He shared sample prompts and prompting techniques such as assigning the AI a defined role, instructing it not to infer, and conferring with it before it begins work.
