Ralph Burnham and Kelly Ratliff presented a case study at the 49th Annual Conference on Explosives & Blasting Technique hosted by the International Society of Explosives Engineers (ISEE) in San Antonio, Texas. The case study and presentation was titled,  "Magnitude 2.8 Earthquake Caused by 90 Pounds (41 kg) Per Delay! Not So Fast." Accompanied by co-author Travis Davidsavor, the presentation focused on the evaluation of the “seismic events” prior to and after a blast at a quarry in Mankato, Minnesota, the earthquake that followed, the initial response from various state and federal agencies, including the USGS, and provided the framework for assessing the relationship between the blast and the earthquake. They also discussed the management of large volume claims from a complex event and provided claims management strategy best practices.
