Joe Simms hosted an event in Columbus he coordinated in his capacity as Chair of the Ohio State Bar Association's Litigation Section (together with the Chair of the Young Lawyers Section and OSBA personnel, who helped with the planning and logistics). The event, co-sponsored by the Litigation Section and the Young Lawyers Section, consisted of a showing of the movie “Just Mercy,” followed by a panel discussion regarding criminal justice reform. The movie showing and panel discussion were held at the Grandview Theater in Columbus, followed by a happy hour at the Grandview Café.

Panelists included Ohio Supreme Court Justice Michael Donnelly, Ohio Supreme Court Justice Patrick Fischer, Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association President and criminal defense attorney Ian Friedman, and Columbus City Prosecutor Jennifer Grant. Moderators included Scott Ciszewski, Franklin County Public Defender, and Brooke Burns, Ohio Public Defender.
