Shelby focuses her practice area to defending the rights of Ohio Employers when they find themselves involved with defending against a Workers' Compensation claim. She works with each client to manage the costs of allowed claims and to defend against claims that, for some reason or another, seem suspicious or even fraudulent.

  • Ohio Supreme Court Rejects Attempt to Prosecute Medical Malpractice Lawsuit Without Expert Testimony
    December 8, 2011

    Today the Ohio Supreme Court reversed a decision by the Tenth District Court of Appeals which had held that expert testimony was not required for lack of informed consent claims when such claims are brought in the context of a medical malpractice lawsuit. In its Opinion in White v. Leimbach, 2011-Ohio-6238, the Court held rather that such lack of informed consent claims are considered medical malpractice claims, and are not exempt from the requirement of expert testimony.

    Reminger Co., LPA attorney Laurie J. Avery was selected by the Burton Awards for Legal Achievement among the "Best Law Firm Writers of 2011." The article, entitled "Zippo and Internet Activity: The New Language of Personal Jurisdiction?" was published in DRI's For the Defense, Spring 2010. The article explores recent case law which has developed specialized tests for applying traditional personal jurisdiction standards to internet activity and how corporations can prepare to efficiently address their exposure to being sued in jurisdictions with which they have little or no contact beyond a generalized presence on the internet.

    The Burton Awards for Legal Achievement, held in association with the Library of Congress, recently announced thirty winners among all the entries of articles on legal subjects published within the past year. The Burton Awards were established to select the finest law firm and law school authors. The event will be held at the Library of Congress on June 13, 2011, featuring Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor as the guest speaker.
