CLEVELAND, OH – The Reminger Foundation announced that we recently awarded a total of $15,000 in charitable contributions to Northeast Ohio nonprofit organizations dedicated to providing treatment and recovery services for drug abuse and addiction.

We were also featured in an article abour our charitable contributions in Crain's Cleveland Business, that can be read by clicking here.

Three organizations were selected for individual $5,000 grants, including:

The Reminger Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization funded by the attorneys and staff of Reminger Co., LPA, and friends of the law firm. Reminger - a civil defense litigation firm headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio - operates 14 law offices located throughout the Midwest.

The Board of Directors of The Reminger Foundation and Reminger’s Managing Partner Stephen E. Walters discussed how to best use Foundation funds to help address and combat this burgeoning epidemic that has gripped the nation. Ohio has the highest rate of opioid overdoses in the country, with the Ohio Department of Health reporting more than 3,000 deaths in 2015 alone.  That number is projected to increase, spurred by a surge in the use of heroin and fentanyl.

“We are in the midst of an unprecedented health crisis that doesn’t distinguish based on socioeconomic status, race, or gender. We have seen the ravaging effects of addiction in the news, and we have felt it close to home, right here in our community,” remarked Walters. “There are so many deserving organizations in Northeast Ohio alone that treat those suffering from the debilitating disease of addiction, it was very difficult to choose just a few.”

Walters added that this particular cause was one that felt personal, as he and others at the firm know families who have been impacted by the devastating effects of opioid addiction. “There is so much work to be done to address prevention, treatment, and recovery. We hope that through the use of Foundation funds we are able to not only increase awareness of the disease of addiction, but also to help save lives right here in our own backyard.”
