Mr. Winter’s practice focuses on the defense of a wide range of professional liability, commercial and casualty matters, with a particular emphasis on the defense of legal malpractice and catastrophic injury disputes. Mr. Winter graduated magna cum laude from Boston University with a Bachelors degree in Economics in 1996, and earned his Juris Doctorate degree from Georgetown University in 2000, where he was named to the Dean's List, and was the recipient of the Greenfield Trial Practice Award. Upon graduation from Georgetown, Mr. Winter joined the Miami-Dade County State Attorney's Office in Miami, Florida, as an Assistant State Attorney. During Mr. Winter's tenure as a prosecutor, he tried approximately forty jury trials to verdict as lead counsel, and more than fifty bench trials, prosecuting such violent crimes as murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, kidnapping, sexual battery, and narcotics trafficking. Mr. Winter also argued on numerous occasions before the various Florida Appellate Courts and was specially appointed by Executive Order of then-Florida Governor Jeb Bush to represent the state of Florida in conflict situations.
Between 2003 and 2009, Mr. Winter was a partner in another Cleveland law firm, chairing that firm’s professional liability and casualty practice groups for approximately five years. Mr. Winter has been included in “Ohio Rising Star “ by Law and Politics Magazine on multiple occasions, and has been identified by Best Lawyers in America for Legal Malpractice and Professional Liability Law. Mr. Winter has tried civil jury trials throughout the state of Ohio and has argued before the majority of the Ohio Appellate Courts. Mr. Winter also has authored amicus curiae briefs before the Ohio Supreme Court on behalf of interested parties in professional liability matters.
Mr. Winter is admitted to practice before the Courts of the States of Ohio and Florida, the United States District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of Ohio and the Eastern District of Michigan, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Winter has handled numerous matters throughout Ohio’s adjacent states, including Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Indiana, and Michigan. Mr. Winter also has represented numerous foreign-based institutional, corporate and individual clients in domestic litigation, including clients based throughout China, Taiwan, Canada, South Africa, Switzerland, and Australia.
